Our Feet In Open Court PLUS
We Tell Stories is a member of the Arts Community Partnership
Network (ACPN), a project of the Arts Education Branch of the Los
Angeles Unified School District. ACPN coordinates the efforts of
arts organizations in support dance, music, theatre and visual arts
instruction, K-12.
The We Tell Stories LAUSD Arts Education Package, which is offered
through ACPN, is called On Our Feet In Open Court PLUS.
This arts education package is specifically designed to accompany
Open Court Reading (OCR) adopted by Los Angeles Unified School
District as their literacy initiative. LAUSD fully funds this 3-6
week package for Arts Program Schools.
We Tell Stories applies its unique educational philosophy and
process of turning stories into plays to teach state required
Theatre Arts Standards, connecting Language Arts Standards, with OCR
skills and strategies.
We Tell Stories offers assemblies
based on the OCR stories for grades K-5. Each 45-minute assembly
contains up to three story-plays based on OCR stories.
Direct-instruction classroom workshops based on OCR stories are
available for teachers and students. PLUS Workshops are
available in the same format as all other We Tell Stories
workshops.
All PLUS package components are presented by WTS master
artists/teachers who model highly interactive, inventive approaches
to learning, working with OCR stories from 2000 and 2002 editions.
PLUS instills in students and educators the abilities and
motivation to produce a community of active, avid readers and
learners.
